Our School

Buildwas Academy is set in a traditional Victorian building in the beautiful countryside close to the Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage Site and Ironbridge Museums. Our position, overlooking the River Severn, adds to the charm.

Our school has a strong tradition, educating children since 1855, using the community and extensive local resources provided by the local and wide Shropshire area.

Children are taught in 3 mixed-age classrooms with our Preschool provision seamlessly fitting into our mixed Year 1/Reception/Preschool class. We then offer a Year 2/3/4 class and a Year 5/6 class. We offer education for 3 – 11 year olds within the Buildwas, Leighton and Eaton Constantine parishes and the surrounding Telford & Wrekin and Shropshire areas.

If you are interested in your child joining our school including preschool, then please give us a ring or pop into school for an application form and further information. Your child can start nursery at the start of the term after they are 3 years old. If you have any questions or need any further information, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Nut Free School

Can we please remind you we are a nut free school.

Children who suffer from nut allergies can develop a severe, potentially life-threatening allergic reaction.

If someone has a nut allergy it is not just eating nuts that can cause a severe reaction, just being touched on the skin or smelling the breath of someone who has had nuts or a product containing nuts can trigger anaphylactic shock (which can cause breathing and swallowing difficulties).

First aid staff in the school are trained to use the Epi-pens (an injection of adrenalin) which is required immediately if this happens.

We cannot have nuts in school in any form.

So please can we ask that you have no nut products in the lunch boxes or brought into the school as treats.

For example:

  • Peanut butter sandwiches
  • Chocolate spreads
  • Cereal bars
  • Some granola bars
  • Cakes that contain nuts
  • Biscuits / Cookies that contain nuts
  • Peanut butter cakes
  • Some Asian food, including satay
  • Sauces that contain nuts

This list is not exhaustive, so please check the packaging of products closely.

We appreciate that this is an additional thing to check, and we know that you recognise the importance of it.

We do have to insist we are a nut free school. I know if this was your child you would expect that we all help, especially as it is a life-threatening condition.
